The African Migration Observatory (AMO) Participates in High-Level AI Governance Roundtable

 

On May 28th, 2024, the African Migration Observatory (AMO) took part in a high-level AI governance roundtable hosted by Microsoft in Marrakech, a side event during GITEX Africa. Ms. Sanaa Kiadi, Migration Senior Officer at AMO, joined government officials, policymakers, and private sector leaders to discuss AI's role in empowering Africa.

 

The event focused on fostering responsible AI innovation to help African nations achieve their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), address emerging challenges, and promote strong regional and international collaboration. Distinguished leaders shared valuable insights, paving the way for collaborative efforts to deploy AI technologies effectively and sustainably across Africa. Discussions centered on building frameworks for successful AI implementation, establishing robust structures for AI governance, utilizing AI for data-driven decision-making in migration, and supporting the foundations of AI ecosystems by fostering talent, data, computing power, and infrastructure.

 

AMO's participation underscores its commitment to responsible AI governance for better migration management in Africa. It highlighted the potential of AI as a powerful tool for addressing migration challenges and enhancing migration governance across the continent.
